DJ Jazzy Jeff, Will Smith's longtime friend and DJ, was a recent guest on the FAQ Podcast, where he opened up about Will's infamous Oscar slap.

"I've known Will almost 40 years and know hundreds of times that I've looked at him and said 'I do not know how you held it together'", said the DJ and producer. "You are the most sensible, you've always been that."

Jeff went on to explain that based on Will's recent autobiography, which begins with Will witnessing his father assault his mother, Will has always felt the need to protect the women in his life.

"Will has been protecting his mom ever since he was a kid," he said. "He's been trying to make up for watching the situation between his dad and mom. Ever since that Will has been protecting his woman."

Jeff also described what it was like watching the moment on television.

"It was slow motion for me. I'm sitting in the bed super excited, and when it happened and I saw him walk up there it was like... Let me tell you something about Will. He cliff dove in Jamaica and couldn't swim. Will is the person who whatever he's afraid of he runs to. Will would have slapped Mike Tyson. It did not matter who was there. He would have gotten his ass beat, but he was gonna do whatever he was gonna do no matter who it was."

Will Smith has been banned from any motion picture Academy events in person or virtually for ten years, although he is allowed to be nominated and win.
