DJ Drama confirmed on a recent episode of the Rap Radar Podcast that he is working on a new De La Soul Gangsta Grillz mixtape.
"We got a Gangsta Grillz coming! Little sidebar," he said in the interview, after expressing excitement about their work coming to streaming platforms.
"Me being a mixtape DJ, I was always addicted to the new shit," he said when asked how he's able to continuously connect with artists and fans. "Hip-Hop turning 50 and being able to go to a Wu-Tang and Nas show and enjoy it as much as a Playboi Carti show, I was a teenager in the 90s and that's my era. I love that, that's what I ride around to."
Drama also has a Gangsta Grillz with Pusha T on the way soon.
As for De La Soul, their six full-length albums were made available on all streaming platforms on March 4, and their debut album 3 Feet High And Rising just re-entered the Billboard 200 landing at #15. De La Soul also performed with The Roots on Late Night Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday (3/16).
Kicked off with a spoken word intro by Posdnous, the riveting live performance of the J Dilla-produced track Stakes Is High featured Black Thought performing Trugoy's verses. In front of a background of rotating daisies, Thought and Plug One deliver a flawless performance of one of their most celebrated songs. Near the end of the performance, the lights went down and Posdnous delivered an acapella spoken word version of his last verse before the lights and band resumed to thunderous applause.
The already perfect performance ended with a short spoken message from Trugoy as his image appeared replacing the daisy backdrop. No date has been announced for the Gangsta Grillz mixtape.
