After last night’s Verzuz battle between Fat Joe and Ja Rule at Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theater, Jermaine Dupri took to Twitter to challenge Diddy to a Verzuz of their own. He tagged the Bad Boy founder in his tweet saying he would “need some training” in order to go against the So So Def producer.
Diddy quickly responded to the Atlanta producer’s claims saying, “aiiint got enough hits.” He continued by saying Dr. Dre would be the only fair match-up for his catalog of hits over the years. “I’ll smash you with just biggie n Mary. But I do have the upmost respect on you as a musical legend - Dre the only one can get in the ring w me.”
Co-founder of Verzuz, Swizz Beats, says that Dre was set to do a Verzuz battle of his own but was turned off after the technical difficulties during the Teddy Riley and Babyface battle last year.
“When Dr. Dre wasn’t feeling the sound from Teddy Riley and Babyface, that hurt our heart. Oh my God,” Swizz said during a Breakfast Club interview. “He was supposed to come at the end and announce that he was gon’ do Verzuz that night… He got on the phone, he was like ‘man, I can’t be a part of nothing that sound like that, my legacy is quality.’ I was like ‘oh, we just lost Dre’… that one felt pretty crazy.”
This is not the first time Dupri has suggested a battle between himself and Diddy. In 2020 Dupri said he would be happy to do a battle between So So Def and Bad Boy Records.
Who do you think is the perfect match-up for Diddy? So So Def or Aftermath?
