In a landmark decision today (June 24), the Supreme Court voted to overturn Roe v. Wade, giving states the right to ban abortion. The ruling ended the country's constitutional protections for abortions that had been in place for almost 50 years. The decision is expected to lead to abortion bans in roughly 16 states.

The ruling comes after an unprecedented leak of a draft opinion by Justice Samuel Alito, which indicated the decision was coming. Still, it caused a wave of shock and outrage when it was officially announced today.

Michelle Obama weighed in on the controversial decision and released a statement saying she's "heartbroken" for the people in this country who've lost the fundamental right to make decisions about their own bodies.

Chuck D chimed in on the historic decision as well, writing, "And backwoods go this nation of fascists …" on Twitter.

Questlove said he was "fatigued" on a thread about the decision, warning, "there is no more “ignore the news/willfully ignorant & will just work itself out eventually” y’all better get serious people."

Quest added, "I’ll mindfully refrain from finger pointing but I know a gajillion people who are way too passive for my tastes when I bring up current events and they just generally have no opinion (or can afford to bury head in the sand—-or can’t afford & still do) looking extra hard at them."

Previously, artists including Rihanna and Megan Thee Stallion had condemned the possibility of Roe v. Wade being overturned, with the latter lending her name to a full-page New York Times ad back in May denouncing the leaked opinion.
