DJ Premier Plays Blue Note NYC with Stanley Clarke

By

As part of legendary jazz bassist Stanley Clarke’s April 29th – May 8th residency at the Blue Note in New York City, Clarke was joined by DJ Premier, pianist Cameron Graves and horn player Emilio Modeste on May 4 and May 5.

Preemo mixed the vocals of some of his selected productions and, as he does on his live sets with Bigger Band, synced them with Clarke’s upright bass, Grave’s smooth keys and Modeste’s roaring horns. The quartet ran through Premier-produced classics like “Devil’s Pie," “DWYCK” and a James Brown tribute in celebration of his birthday, which was May 3.

"One of the best experiences of my life. Getting invited to play 2 nights, 4 shows with The Icon of bass @stanleyclarke @bluenotenyc," Premier said on Instagram. "Salute Cameron Graves on keys and Emilio Modeste on the horns @camonpaino @emiliomodeste."
