LL COOL J On His Famous Audi 5000 In the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
By Kiani Shabazz
Rock The Bells Founder and hip-hop legend LL COOL J was officially inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on October 31, 20121, for his monumental contributions to hip-hop music and popular culture during the span of his almost 40-year career.
The Queens emcee’s 1986 Audi 5000, featured in the iconic cover of his 1987 sophomore album Bigger and Deffer, was added as an installment in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame museum in Cleveland, Ohio.
The cherry red 1986 Audi 5000 was purchased by the then 18-year old rap superstar for $30,000 with a Blaupunkt stereo system installed, blacked-out windows, and a car phone. The car was a testament to the hard work and dedication LL put into his craft as he climbed up the ranks in the music industry.
In an interview with Rock The Bells icon, Grandmaster Caz, LL said the car was a symbol of his determination when he was asked what it symbolized to him. The word “determination” is found on the gas tank, reminding a young LL how far he has come.
“At that time, it was determination, that’s what it says on the gas tank on the other side,” LL explained to Caz. “ To make it and to be successful, you gotta be determined and you can’t give up, and you can’t get frustrated. You know what I’m saying? Even when it’s frustrating.”
Congratulations to LL COOL J for being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Make sure to catch the Rock Hall ceremony airing on HBO on Saturday, November 20.
