Jay-Z's Roc Nation To Host Social Justice Summit


The United Justice Coalition, Roc Nation’s social justice arm, has convened a gathering of social justice leaders from various industries for a summit that is scheduled to take place this summer in the midst of the midterm elections. The United Justice Coalition was assembled by Team Roc, which leads the labels philanthropic efforts, and is scheduled to gather in New York City on July 23 to raise awareness about racial justice and policy issues affecting people of color across the United States.

Roc Nation’s managing director of philanthropy Dania Diaz told ABC News that they hope the summit will encourage political action and engagement amid the mid term elections.

"It's an opportunity for people to really learn about issues that impact their communities, issues that impact their communities ,that are going to inevitably come up in the mid term elections," said Diaz. "Hopefully, this will drive action, at the very least to get more people connected to whats happening locally in their communities, also getting them registered to vote first and foremost. And to recognize that there are networks of folks and organizations that they can lean into for support and for greater resources."

The summit will feature celebrities, activists, academics and the family members of those who lost their lives to gun violence; and it will highlight issues like criminal justice reform, mental wellness and political and civic engagement. Headliners include radio host Charlamagne Tha God, civil rights attorney Ben Crump, Dream Corps. founder Van Jones, Until Freedom co-founder Tamika Mallory and professor and author Michael Eric Dyson.
