Lil Cease Says Diddy Told Biggie Not To React To Suge Knight's Source Awards Diss

By Kiani Shabazz

The infamous 1995 Source Awards will be a night forever engraved in hip-hop history. At the height of the East Coast Vs. West Coast feud between Bad Boy and Death Row, Suge Knight, would take the stage while Snoop accepted his award for Video of the Year to diss Bad Boy and other East Coast emcees.

Suge declared, "One more thing I'd like to say: Any artists out there that wanna be an artist and want to stay a star, and don't wanna worry about the executive producer tryin' to be all in the videos, all on the record, dancin'...come to Death Row!"

In a recent interview with VladTV, Lil Cease admitted that Suge’s comments caught him off guard. "We didn't know about—I didn't know if him and Puff had no beef. We didn't know about them havin' no issues and situations like that," he said. "We didn't think nothin' of it because while we was there during rehearsals and things like that, we was actually seeing them."

He recalled seeing Daz Dillinger and Snoop Dogg, and there wasn't anything to suggest that there was an issue.

"We're thinking everything was all love," said Cease. "It was other sh*t going on in there. Bone Thugs was beefing, I think, with Death Row at that time with the Eazy-E sh*t, but it was cordial and mutual with us... We didn't know that they was tryin' to sign Tupac. We didn't know nothin' that was goin' on, so, everything was all love until [Suge] got on that stage and said that sh*t."

Cease says that the Bad Boy Records crew were all looking at each other in confusion when Suge and Snoop took the stage. Instead of reacting, Diddy suggested they crew keep things calm and collective.

"The Brooklyn n*ggas, the Biggie n*ggas, nah. They was ready to get it on and poppin', but you know, Big really trusted Puff and took Puff word." Watch Lil Cease speak about that tense moment below.
