On Sept. 28, 1988, MC Hammer dropped his sophomore album, Let's Get It Started, the follow-up to his 1986 debut, Feel My Power.

The album marked the Oakland native's major label debut, and the 11-track project was essentially a re-issue of Feel My Power with additional songs added. It featured a crop of hits, including "Pump It Up," "Let's Get It Started," "They Put Me in the Mix," and "Turn This Mutha Out" which sampled George Clinton's "Give Up The Funk (Tear the Roof Off the Sucker)" and landed at No. 3 on the US Rap charts.

Hammer's sophomore album was successful —it went double platinum and he was nominated for an MTV VMA for "Turn This Mutha Out". He also made a memorable appearance on The Arsenio Hall Show.

"I've been dancing and making music since I was four or 5 years old," Hammer told Davey D back in 1997. "So I'm always gonna have love for what I do. You never lose the love for it."

Serving as a precursor to the mega mainstream success he'd experience with his 1990 follow-up, Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em, which spawned one of the biggest songs in rap history, "U Can't Touch This," Let's Get It Started is Hammer in his element — energetic and endlessly entertaining.
